According to known standards for disinfection, different microorganisms will have a different killing and death quality value when using UV-C. It can be calculated using the formula as below.

K (disinfectant quantity- μ W Sec/cm2) = I(the strength μ W/cm 2)* t(time-sec)

Based on this formula, it can be seen that either a high strength, short time or a low strength, long time will provide similar disinfection effects.

However, in reality, there are many factors to consider when calculating the amount of UV energy required, including air flow, humidity levels, time and distance, making the calculation very difficult. Although this is so, studies have shown that sufficient UV light is able to kill any microorganism containing DNA and that the UV light effects are additive.

How the UV-C Lamp Works

UV-C (Ultraviolet-C) light tubes are designed and manufactured to produce ultraviolet rays which electromagnetic spectrum acts in between the area where Germicidal radiation is effective to kill all micro-organisms, germs, viruses, mould and fungus. It is scientifically known that a wavelength of λ=253.7nm can eliminate all, if not majority of micro-organisms, germs, viruses, mould and fungus. However our UVC light tubes are all specially manufactured with a precision mixture which is injected into the Quartz glass tubes which when lighted up will produce a rays that will only kills micro-organisms, germs, viruses, mould and fungus and does no harm to human being or animal.

 

How Disinfection Works

UV-C light has the ability to kill germs and bacteria, as it destroys the DNA of the cells in the case of germs, viruses or bacteria, effectively killing the cell. It is however 100% human and pet safe. In the case of any super viruses the UVC rays changes the characteristics of the DNA and eventually the cells dies away. In some cases, UV-C light stimulates a reaction in thymine molecules in DNA, causing the thymine molecules to disrupt its character. If enough defective thymine molecules are accumulated these micro-organisms are considered harmless.

UV rays can destroy a microorganism’s DNA in a variety of ways. One such way is where the bases in a DNA molecule form bonds with the adjacent molecules instead of diagonally. As a result, the DNA shape changes and it cannot be properly functional.

More defective thymine molecules will be accumulated, the longer that DNA is exposed to UV-C light. Once the DNA is damaged, the cell is unable to carry out its usual cellular processes or in simple terms, the cell is unable to multiply. Significant DNA damage will cause the cell to die.

A UV radiation range of 200-300nm (nanometer) is most effective in destroying many types of pathogens, including bacteria in the air and on surfaces, viruses, moulds and yeasts. UV-C is perfect as it falls in this range.
